Country White Sourdough Loaf - Serving Suggestion

This month shows you how to use our Country White Sourdough Loaf (Code:62356) to create Gourmet Cheese on Toast. However this serving suggestions can be used with most of our Sourdough loaves found on Page 58 - 59 of our catalogue.

Gourmet Cheese on Toast

A slice of toasted country white sourdough bread topped with a creamy cheese sauce with a watercress salad and crispy Parma ham.

Ingredients

1 - Country white sourdough bread (Code: 62356)
2 - Butter
3 - Plain flour
4 - Single cream
5 - Seasoning
6 - Chopped parsley
7 - Garlic
8 - Parma ham
9 - Grated  Emental cheese
10 - Watercress.
11 - English mustard.
12 - Red onion

Preparing the bread

1 - Bake the bread in a pre-heated oven at 196°c for about 18 minutes until golden brown. Then allow to cool.

Preparing the sauce

1 - Finely chop the red onion.
2 - Melt the butter in a pan and add the chopped onion and gently fry
3 - Fold the flour into the butter mix and allow cooking out
4 - Pour in the cream until the required thickness of sauce is reached
5 - Add the grated Emental cheese holding some back to top the sandwich at the end
6 - Add about a teaspoon full of English mustard
7 - Add the chopped parsley.


Finally, preparing the sandwich

1 - Cut a slice of the bread about two centimetres thick, Place either under a grill or on a Panini grill.
2 - Once grilled rub the surface with the crushed clove of garlic
3 - Spread a little butter over the slice.
4 - Spread a thick layer of the prepared cheese sauce over the bread
5 - Sprinkle  the remaining Emental cheese and chopped parsley over the top
6 - In a hot dry pan place two slices of the Parma ham and allow to crisper
7 - Place the prepared sandwich under the grill until the cheese begins to caramelise
8 - Once grilled top with the watercress and finish with the crispy slices of Parma ham
